Warm Reflections on Black Ice

Rosa Stern Space and Saigon collaborate to foster a sustainable exchange between Munich and Athens, showcasing the third edition of the GASTSPIEL curatorial line. The journey begins with a group exhibition curated by Alexandros Tzannis, the founder and artistic director of Saigon. “Warm Reflections on Black Ice” features seven international artists, centered around the topic of solitude and human interaction in contemporary times. The artworks share a common thread in their materiality or content, inviting viewers to approach and redefine themselves, evoking a mirroring condition that reflects our elusive and fragmented nature. Indeed, in this context, the term “reflection” holds a dual meaning, encompassing both the literal mirroring and the state of deep contemplation and self-observation. This interplay between fluidity and solidity, coldness and intimacy, offers a glimpse of warmth within the exhibition’s introspective and obscure environment. 

Saigon, established in 2019 in Athens, is a visual arts and sound space. It hosts exhibitions, curatorial projects, and ventures beyond its physical boundaries. With a basement exuding a dark ambiance and a terrace showcasing an industrial backdrop, Saigon embraces its distinctive identity.

Rosa Stern Space präsentiert gemeinsam mit Saigon die dritte Ausgabe der kuratorischen Reihe GASTSPIEL, um einen nachhaltigen Austausch zwischen München und Athen zu schaffen. Den Auftakt macht eine von Alexandros Tzannis, dem Gründer und künstlerischen Leiter von Saigon, kuratierte Gruppenausstellung namens “Warm Reflections on Black Ice”. Sieben internationale Künstler:innen erkunden darin Einsamkeit und menschliche Interaktion im zeitgenössischen Kontext. Die Kunstwerke, die sich in Materialität oder Inhalt vereinen, erzeugen einen Zustand der fortwährenden Spiegelung, der unsere schwer fassbare und fragmentierte Natur widerspiegelt. Das Konzept der “Reflexion” erhält eine doppelte Bedeutung, indem es sowohl die wörtliche Spiegelung als auch einen Zustand tiefer Kontemplation und Introspektion symbolisiert. Dieses Wechselspiel zwischen Fluidität und Festigkeit, Kälte und Intimität bietet einen Hauch von Wärme in einer introspektiven und obskuren Umgebung. 

Saigon, 2019 in Athen gegründet, ist ein Raum für visuelle Kunst und Klang. Neben Ausstellungen und kuratorischen Projekten agiert es oft über seine physischen Grenzen hinaus. Saigon besticht mit einem obskuren Untergeschoss und einer lichten Terrasse, die den industriellen Kontext widerspiegelt.
