The works Natascha Sadr Haghighian is presenting at Lenbachhaus center around a whistle. The simple signaling instrument is used both by authorities and as a means of protest against them. It demands attention and embodies urgency without taking a stand for or against the existing order. Thus, it makes order re-negotiable and becomes a poetic tool.

Fragment of an Infinite Discourse is the title of a work of art by artist Mario García Torres: three glass rings interlock without touching one another. The work serves as the exhibition’s opening gambit. It illustrates how subtly yet inextricably things are interwoven and prompts a variety of associations, sensations, and interpretations. The exhibition Fragment of an Infinite Discourse was designed in honor of the donation made by Jörg Johnen and is presented in combination with selections from the collections of Lenbachhaus and the KiCo Foundation.

Joseph Mallord William Turner has long been hailed as a revolutionary innovator who helped pave the way for modernism. Born in the age of mythological ships, deceased in the age of steamships, he is the chronicler of the industrial and social revolution. Very early on, an unprecedented freedom of color characterized his painting; much to the amazement of his contemporaries. Even today, Turner continues to surprise us with his astonishing modernity.

Die Frage nach Kollektivität zieht sich durch Natascha Sadr Haghighians Werk: Kollaborative Arbeitsweisen und humorvolles Unterwandern repräsentativer Rollen sind charakteristisch für ihr Vorgehen. Die Trillerpfeife steht im Zentrum der Arbeiten am Lenbachhaus. Das simple Signalinstrument findet sowohl bei Autoritäten als auch im Protest gegen sie Verwendung. Die Trillerpfeife fordert Aufmerksamkeit und verkörpert Dringlichkeit, ohne dabei eindeutig für oder gegen die bestehende Ordnung zu stehen. Dadurch macht sie Ordnung neu verhandelbar und wird poetisches Werkzeug.

Fragment of an Infinite Discourse – Fragment eines endlosen Diskurses ist der Titel eines Kunstwerks des Künstlers Mario García Torres. Drei Glasringe greifen ineinander, ohne sich zu berühren. Das Werk bildet den Auftakt zur Ausstellung. Es zeigt, wie subtil und zugleich unauflöslich die Dinge miteinander verbunden sind und regt unterschiedliche Assoziationen, Empfindungen und Deutungen an. Die Ausstellung entstand zu Ehren der Schenkung von Jörg Johnen. Sie wird in Verbindung mit Beständen des Lenbachhauses und der KiCo Stiftung gezeigt.

Joseph Mallord William Turner gilt bis heute als Erneuerer der Landschaftsmalerei und Vorreiter der Abstraktion. Geboren im Zeitalter der Sagenschiffe, gestorben im Zeitalter der Dampfschiffahrt, ist er der Chronist der industriellen und gesellschaftlichen Revolution. Schon sehr früh prägte eine bis dahin nicht gesehene Freiheit der Farbe seine Malerei; diese verblüffte seine Zeitgenossen und überrascht bis heute mit seiner erstaunlichen Modernität.
