BRITTA RETTBERG is delighted to invite blank projects from Cape Town to present the work of Lerato Shadi. Shadi's works challenge common assumptions to critique Western notions of history and make visible that which is invisible or overlooked. Working across video, performance and installation and often employing repetitive processes, she argues the importance of centering – not just including – the marginalized body as a main figure of narrative experience. By placing herself at the forefront of her work, Shadi deals with the politics of cultural erasure and structural exclusion.

BRITTA RETTBERG freut sich, blank projects aus Kapstadt einzuladen, um die Arbeit der Künstlerin Lerato Shadi zu präsentieren. Shadis Werke stellen gängige Annahmen in Frage, um westliche Vorstellungen von Geschichte zu kritisieren und das Unsichtbare oder Übersehene sichtbar zu machen. Durch Video, Performance und Installation fokussiert sie sich auf den marginalisierten Körper, nicht bloß als Teil, sondern als Mittelpunkt der erzählerischen Erfahrung. Indem sie sich selbst ins Zentrum ihrer Arbeit rückt, setzt sich Shadi mit der Politik der kulturellen Auslöschung und der strukturellen Ausgrenzung auseinander.

Additionally, BRITTA RETTBERG presents new works by Patrick Ostrowsky in the gallery's project space "Park." Ostrowsky explores transferring structures of urban life and strategies of temporary architecture onto sculpture. His new group of works deals with questions of representation and notions of inside and outside, referencing the domestic world and the concept of home.

blank projects was founded by Jonathan Garnham as a project space in 2005 and became a commercial gallery in 2012. blank projects represents emerging and established regional artists in a critically engaged program. It emphasizes contemporaneity with a focus on concept and abstraction in the African context.

Darüber hinaus präsentiert BRITTA RETTBERG im Projektraum der Galerie „Park“ neue Arbeiten von Patrick Ostrowsky. Der Künstler beschäftigt sich mit der Übertragung von urbanen Strukturen und Strategien der temporären Architektur auf die Skulptur. Seine neue Werkgruppe thematisiert Fragen der Repräsentation und der Vorstellung von Innen und Außen, und verweist auf die häusliche Welt und das Konzept des Heimischen.
